Planteray Original Dark Rum 700ml

Built from the contrasting rum traditions of Barbados and Jamaica, Planteray Original Dark delivers richness, spice and deep tropical character.

Planteray Original Dark Rum brings together carefully selected rums from Barbados and Jamaica to create a full-flavoured dark rum with depth and versatility. The Barbados component is produced at West Indies Rum Distillery using both column and pot still distillation, while the Jamaican component comes from Long Pond Distillery and is produced using traditional pot stills. Younger Barbados rums aged for one to three years are blended with older Jamaican high-ester rums aged for ten to fifteen years. This combination balances the rounded, supple character of Barbados rum with the powerful fruit and aromatic intensity associated with Jamaica. Bottled at 40% ABV, Original Dark is particularly suited to cocktails while retaining enough complexity to enjoy on its own.

Following maturation, the selected rums are blended and allowed to marry for several months in wooden vats to integrate their flavours and textures. The nose shows generous dark fruit, baking spice and molasses-like richness, with black pepper, clove, cinnamon, baked cherry and prune supported by black tea and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, white raisin and dried pineapple provide a fruit-driven opening before warming spice and firmer mineral notes develop. The older Jamaican component contributes expressive aromatic depth, while the Barbados rum brings balance, roundness and structure. The result is a richly flavoured dark rum with enough weight and intensity to remain distinctive in classic rum cocktails.
